Sigh… I’ve written before about what a picky eater my little Georgie is, and it continues to be an ongoing challenge. Getting her excited at mealtime, and then keeping her excited once the newness wears off a new food, is something I’ve never experienced with any other pet.

I decided it was time for me to challenge Georgie. I set out to find a dog food that I thought might pique her interest for longer than one or 2 meals, but it had to be made of whole food ingredients and it had to provide complete and balanced nutrition.

Side by Side

That’s when I learned about Side by Side.

Now, I’m not a veterinarian or a pet nutritionist, so I could really use a little guidance when it comes to choosing the best food for Georgie. Side by Side starts with their online Pet Assessment that asks dog moms a few questions about their dog’s breed, age, activity level, temperament, and more.

Side by Side uses this information to get to know your pet so that they can recommend the best food, supplements, and nutritious treats. The Pet Assessment takes only a few minutes, and it’s totally free. Plus you can get 25% off your first order and 15% the subscription service with
code EVERYDAYDOGMOM.

Side by Side Founder Marney Prince

I was fortunate enough to have a personal 30 minute telephone call with Marney Prince, the founder of Side by Side who is pictured above. We talked about Georgie’s eating habits, personality, and so much more. With Marney’s thoughtful input, I came away from that conversation feeling so much more confident about the best way to take care of my little girl.

Side by Side sent us some samples to try, including their Genial (freeze-dried) Beef & Salmon Recipe, Harvest (freeze-dried) Pork & Rabbit Recipe, and the Chicken Hearts and Beef Lungs treats.

Side by Side

Georgie first tried the Harvest Recipe, which includes real food ingredients like pork, ground rabbit (with bone), pork heart, pork liver, sweet potato, carrots, celery, parsley, green beans, kale, beets, and apples. Wow, that’s an all-star line-up, don’t you think?

Serving the freeze-dried patties is so easy. Simply re-hydrate each patty with warm water or broth to provide a nutritionally balanced serving. I have to be honest: it looked delicious enough for me to eat!

And it’s no wonder! I mean, check out these facts about Side by Side:

  • Fresh, all-natural proteins including chicken, duck, beef, rabbit, and fish
  • Finely ground bones and organ meats such as hearts and liver –all natural high-quality sources of nutrients
  • Vegetables including greens, carrots and sweet potato, fruits such as apples, and healthy fats, herbs, and supplements
  • Recipes are developed in collaboration with a holistic veterinarian ,credentialed in Eastern and Western medicine and is prepared in small batches
  • No additives, no toxins, and no carcinogens

But back to the age-old question: what would Georgie think of Side by Side?

Side by Side

The good news is, we are several days into the feeding of Side by Side, and Georgie is eager and excited at every mealtime. When I say, “Are you hungry?” she runs to the kitchen, tail wagging, and waits patiently for me to set her bowl in front of her. That’s nothing new; she’s always done that, but usually when I put her dinner down for her, she sniffs it, turns up her nose, and walks away.

Side by Side

But not with Side by Side. Georgie gobbles down her meal in record time and then begs for more. She truly seems to love the Harvest Recipe, and she’s pretty happy with the Genial Recipe as well. She and Nike both love the Side by Side treats, and because the Chicken Hearts treats are for dogs and cats, we even let Snickers in on the fun. He loves them, too.

I’ll check back in with you in a few weeks to let you know how things are going with Georgie and Side by Side. I have a feeling we’ve finally found a winner!

Oh, and by the way, if you’re interested in purchasing Side by Side for your pet, now is a great time to do it! New customers save 25% off your first order and 15% the subscription service with code EVERYDAYDOGMOM at checkout! Right now, Side by Side is available online and will first be available in premier pet stores in Chicago in the coming months, followed by a national rollout this year.
